Woman finds over $2300 in cash, returns to owner

Troopers at State Police Troop A say they were able to return a wallet containing $2390 cash to its rightful owner, thanks to a "Good Samaritan" who found the wallet alongside a road near her home in Prairieville.
Maria Carmouche was on her way to work at the Home Depot on Highland Road when she noticed the wallet lying alongside the road just a few blocks from her home.
Police say Carmouche stopped to see what the item was and realized it was a wallet containing money and credit cards.
Some of the money was scattered on the ground and Carmouche took the time to pick up what she could find and place everything in a plastic bag, police said.
Carmouche then headed directly to State Police Troop A near her place of employment and delivered the bag with all of its contents to the troopers inside.
Troopers at Troop A attempted to contact the owner of the wallet by telephone after finding the owner's identification but they were unsuccessful.
Troopers then went to home of Stephen Buford in Prairieville and delivered the wallet in person. Mr. Buford told troopers he had sold his truck the day before so he could buy a car from a friend, but he had lost the wallet with the money inside.
"The Louisiana State Police would like to publicly recognize Mrs. Carmouche for her honesty and integrity," said State Police Sergeant Markus Smith. "She was able to return the wallet and all of its contents, including every single dollar bill that had been scattered along the roadside. Her actions are commendable."
