St. Charles begins assisted evacuation, continuing through Saturday

St. Charles Parish will begin assisted evacuation Friday, said Renee C. Allemand, St. Charles Parish public information officer.

The parish changed its plans partly because a change in the H-hour by State Police.  Allemand said that State Police moved up the time due to the amount of time that it will take to evacuate southeast and southwest Louisiana.

St. Charles residents needing transportation who have not signed up are asked to call (985) 783-5050 immediately. Parish officials said that assisted evacuations will continue through Saturday and operators will be working phones overnight for people to call if they need assistance evacuating.

Residents bringing a pet must have a carrier and supplies for the animal.

Allemand said that mandatory evacuation will likely be moved up to noon Saturday.
