05:52 PM CDT on Saturday, August 30, 2008

WWL-TV.com

The St. James Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness along with the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office effective today at 5 p.m. have a recommended evacuation for all residents and strongly recommend evacuation for all residents living in trailers, manufactured homes and all residents living south of Highway 3127 in the South Vacherie Area and those living north of Highway 3125 in the Grand Point Area.

The Special Needs Population should call 985-447-0916 should you need to go to a special needs shelter.

Because the storm is projected to make landfall as a Category 4 storm no general population shelters will be opened.

Sand and sandbags are available at the Grand Point Fire Department, Gramercy Water Plant, Lutcher Water Plant, South Vacherie Elementary and the Welcome Fire Station.  All St. James Parish Public Schools, Chanel Interparochial and Headstart Centers will be closed on Tuesday.

A 9 p.m. curfew will go into effect tomorrow Sunday until dawn.
