Jindal frustrated with FEMA over slow supply delivery

02:29 PM CDT on Friday, September 5, 2008

Katie Moore / Eyewitness News

Governor Bobby Jindal says he is frustrated that critical supplies are running low in severely devastated areas of the state and he is calling on FEMA to step up the pace of their delivery.

Jindal says that especially in hard hit areas of Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes, supplies of ice, MREs, tarps and water are running low.

Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph said she had been promised 25 trucks of supplies Friday and that as of 2 pm, only five trucks had been delivered.

Jindal said FEMA needs to bring the supplies in more quickly and that he has offered helicopters, other aircraft and National Guard to help FEMA get the supplies in.

Jindal also said he has authorized the purchase of hundreds of generators to be given to critical businesses around the state, including gas stations and food stores.
