Algiers man accused of Betsy McDaniel's murder

An Algiers man is behind bars, booked with the murder of a popular New Orleans restaurant owner.
Bryant Boudoin kept quiet as police walked him into Orleans Parish Prison.
Thursday morning, police and U.S. Marshals arrested the 27-year old at a home on Potomac Street.
He is charged with the Memorial Day murder of 72-year old Betsy McDaniel from Betsy's Pancake House in the Mid-City.
Miss Betsy died several days after she was beaten severely in an apparent robbery at her home on Warick Drive in Marrero.
“We've actually been looking at him for several months now and trying to piece together his whereabouts, relative to the commission of this crime," said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand.
The sheriff says Wednesday his detectives put out a warrant for Boudoin's arrest.
Thursday morning, a multi-parish task force picked him up in Algiers.
The sheriff would not give many details, but says there is mounting evidence connecting Boudoin to the murder along with a possible second suspect.
"We have some evidence that we've been able to generate in this case that I'm not going to talk about today that led us to this particular individual," said Sheriff Normand. "We have been able to put together additional evidence relative to this individual and another individual which I understand, but we're not going to talk about him yet either, that we've been able to get our hands around this morning as well."
Sheriff Normand says right now, they don't know of any prior relationship between Boudoin and Miss Betsy.
At the time of the murder, family members thought the attacker may have known her because he mentioned Miss Betsy's daughter by her nickname and knew where she kept her safes.
Her son-in-law, John Murdock, said the arrest gives the family hope.
"We're very pleased that the police arrested somebody and maybe they can bring the case to a conclusion and get some justice for Betsy," said Murdock. "The family's still in shock. They haven't recovered, totally. They're doing a little better, everybody's calmed down some, but they've been hoping and praying that the culprit will be brought to justice."
Boudoin is booked with second-degree murder and aggravated burglary.
