Car jumps curb, strikes Saints tailgaters

Eyewitness News reporter Scott Satchfield reports that a car jumped a curb near where some fans were tailgating prior to Monday night's game between the Saints and Vikings, striking some of the participants.

Satchfield said there has been no official report, but that he saw two people being stabilized and put on stretchers. The two victims were taken to the hospital, the extent of their injuries was unknown.

Satchfield said that one of the victims was an off-duty police officer.

He said the car apparently jumped the curb near Lafayette and O'Keefe and then kept going, stopping when it struck a fire hydrant.

NOPD spokesman Gary Flot says the driver was not injured but was taken to a hospital for observation. He says police do not know why the man lost control. The driver, whose name was not released, was cited for careless operation of a vehicle.
