NEW ORLEANS -- An in-depth Coast Guard hearing is scheduled to resume Tuesday into a July 23 collision on the Mississippi River that resulted in a major oil spill.

Tug boat captain takes the stand.

The hearing is looking into a crash between a barge, pushed by a towboat, and a tanker.

The towboat did not have the required master onboard and the Coast Guard has focused its attention on the company operating the vessel, DRD Towing of Harvey.

The towboat's pilot, apprentice steersman John Paul Bavaret II, has yet to testify at the hearing.
