BATON ROUGE, La. -- The residents of six more parishes damaged by Hurricane Ike are eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.

The state labor department says people who lost jobs or lost wages because of Ike in Allen, Livingston, Orleans, St. Martin, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes are eligible.

People eligible in these six parishes must file applications within 30 days, by Nov. 12.

The six parishes join 14 others previously announced for unemployment aid. Those were: Acadia, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Iberia, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion and Vernon. The deadline for filing for those parishes is Tuesday.

Claims can be filed at www.laworks.net or by calling 1-800-957-1605.
