George Branigan, a republican candidate for the state’s 79th district seat, has withdrawn from the race.

This comes just days after voters put him and republican Toni Ligi in a runoff for the seat.

During the October 20 primary, Branigan received 23 percent of the vote - he finished behind Ligi who received 42 percent of the vote.

The 79th district seat represents a portion of Jefferson Parish.

As a result of Branigan’s withdrawal, Ligi is elected to the seat.
