SUNO professor receives Presidential award

SUNO Mathematics and Physics professor Dr. Joe Omojola recently received the Presidential Award for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring from the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Omojola was presented the award by President George Bush in a White House ceremony on Nov. 16.

Dr. Omojola is a Professor of Mathematics and Physics at SUNO. Previously he had served as the Dean of the College of Science and the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics.  He is also the Campus Coordinator for SUNO's Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation, the director of SUNO's component of the Graduate Alliance for Education in Louisiana, and a manager for the Program for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Computer Technology.  Because of his efforts over half a million dollars in grants funding reaches SUNO every year.

He was awarded the National Role Model Award for his role in working towards the education of minorities and women and also for increasing their opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics workforce.
