Michael Luke / Eyewitness News

A reserve officer of the New Orleans Police Department was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash, when his car veered off I-10 near Oak Harbor in St. Tammany Parish, said State Police spokesman Trooper Louis Calato in a statement.

Officer Curtis Jones

Around 12:00 a.m., Officer Curtis Jones, 74, Slidell, was traveling east on I-10 near the Oak Harbor exit, when, for reasons unknown, Jones’ car veered off the road to the right, traveling approximately 150 feet off the road before striking a tree, State Police said.

Jones was taken to Northshore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected in the crash, police said, but blood was obtained for analysis.  State Police said Jones was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
