The Christmas tree at the White House will be decorated with some Louisiana flair this year, including an ornament designed by a Metairie artist.

This ornament, which was designed my a Metairie woman, will be placed on the the White House Christmas tree.

Artist Kathline Malone was selected by Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, to design an ornament for the White House Christmas tree. Malone will attend a reception at the White House today, along with ornament designers from other states

Scalise’s office said the First Lady selects a different theme for the Christmas tree each year. This year, Laura Bush invited members of Congress to choose an artist to design an ornament that represents their district.

In a news release, Scalise’s office said Malone’s ornament was “inspired by her love for the Greater New Orleans area and her personal involvement in hurricane recovery projects.” The Congressman’s office said Malone also found inspiration from the song, “Our Home, Louisiana,” written by musician and composer Jep Epstein.

The ornament features four different fleurs-de-lis to represent the different and unique regions of Louisiana.  Also highlighted are old street signs in tiles, depicting street corners where Malone has listed many landmarks and customs of Louisiana.

After the holiday season the ornament will become part of the White House Collection.
