Elderly man killed after car gets in path of 18-wheeler

08:12 AM CST on Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Tom Planchet / Eyewitness News

A 79-year-old man was killed when his car apparently ran through a red light and into the path of an 18-wheeler in Galliano Monday afternoon.

According to Gilbert Dardar of the State Police Troop C, 79-year-old Anthony Guilbeau was driving westbound on LA 3161 when it approached the intersection with LA 3235.

Dardar said that Gilbeau’s vehicle failed to yield at the stop sign and entered the intersection where it was struck on the driver’s side by the truck that was loaded with salt water.

Guilbeau was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital by South Lafourche Ambulance with critical injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Guilbeau was wearing his seat belt.
