The Boh Bros. employee injured in the Twin Spans accident earlier this week remains hospitalized with serious injuries, the company said Friday.

In a news release, the company said the investigation into what caused the accident is ongoing.

Boh Bros. said the employee was working on a mobile hydraulic crane and for an unknown reason, lifted a steel roadway curb form beyond “the safe working radius,” causing the crane to tip over.

“Our employee is well-respected for his abilities and skill,” said Robert S. Boh, president of the construction company, in the news release. “He is an experienced, careful crane operator. He has worked for us since 2001. He has more than 20 years experience in this career. He has worked on the new Twin Spans construction for more than two years.”

The accident is the second in the past few months on the Twin Spans construction. In October, Eric Blackmon died when a concrete beam collapsed into Lake Pontchartrain, taking 10 construction workers into the water with it.

“In light of the public interest in the two serious accidents on this project, we would like to reassure the community that the safety of Boh Bros.’ employees and the public on all company jobsites is our primary focus and highest priority,” Boh said. “The company is reviewing its safety procedures and the safety training of its employees to assure that the Twin Spans project will be built in accordance with that priority.”

The Lousiana Department of Transportation also responded to the accident.

"I expect our contractor to thoroughly review, enforce and, if necessary, revise all safety plans, procedures and employee safety training. DOTD also will review these contractor safety issues and make any necessary changes,” said Dr. William Ankner, DOTD secretary.

"The public demands that we maintain safe roads and bridges, and DOTD will do everything within its legal authority to ensure that our contractors’ worksites also are safe," he added.
