NEW ORLEANS — The Corps of Engineers discovered a body near an Industrial Canal floodwall earlier Friday, but authorities have yet to piece together who it was they found.

NOPD is talking with the family of Douglas Morris, a 54-year-old man who went missing from the dock near his sailboat in the 6000 block of France Road two weeks ago. That location is near where the body was found.

The coroner’s office, meanwhile, is contacting several other families as well. The body won’t be able to be positively identified until authorities receive dental record or there is a DNA match.

Authorities described the body only as a white male wearing denim pants.

Police believe the victim drowned, though they don’t suspect any foul play involved. An autopsy will confirm cause of death Saturday.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Morris, you’re asked to call NOPD or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
