There's no place along the Louisiana coast that's more vulnerable to hurricanes than Plaquemines Parish.

That's why all residents are encouraged to stay in touch with parish officials for alerts in the event of an emergency.

Director of the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Guy Laigast was in the studio to tell us what services are available through Plaquemines Parish government and how you can access parish updates.

If you are a special needs resident and will need assistance evacuating in the event of a storm, you can call the Office of Emergency Preparedness at 504-274-2470. Any resident can also call that number with any questions.

If you are a special needs resident with a medical condition and will need help during an emergency, call the Plaquemines Health Department at 504-394-3510.

You can also go to the Plaquemines Parish website for additional information.
