Mayor Mitch Landrieu talked at length about the crime problem and a lot about how it isn't Katrina and it isn't just poverty that has the rate of murders so high in New Orleans. Landrieu said there is poverty in other cities whose murder rates are much lower.
He talked about five John McDonogh students who were killed in 2011 school year and said it was a sobering fact that a student at that school had a better chance of being killed than a soldier fighting for our freedom in Afghanistan.
