The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran cornerback Chris McAlister.

The 32-year-old former Ravens star has been elected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 10-year career but missed most of last season with a right knee injury and was released by Baltimore last February.

McAlister started for Baltimore's Super Bowl winner in 2001 and ranked third on the Ravens' career list with 26 interceptions when he was released. He also scored seven touchdowns for Baltimore, including a 107-yard return of a missed field goal.

Both Saints starting cornerbacks are nursing injuries. Jabari Greer has a groin pull and Tracy Porter a sprained left knee.

does anyone else find it hilarious how many times they have cut and resigned 3rd string QB Chase Daniel this season to make room for new players???

emovalle, who cares? They are doing what they need to do. It's not like we are desperate for QBs right now. What's hilarious is how you find that hilarious. The organization is trying to fill weak positions and our QB position is not weak!

Awesome! I think McAlister can still play. He will fit right in with the secondary. He has the needed attitude for this defense and the CB position. He is a Mike McKenzie with better speed. He has quick hips and has always played with a never lose mindset.

i DO think it is funny that Chase Daniels is the unending sacrificial lamb on all these moves... i wonder what the record is for being cut and resigned by the same team.....

If I were Chase Daniel, I would probably move on. I mean, how many times do you need to be cut to understand that you aren’t that important to the team? Why cant they cut one of the less often used wide outs or running backs? Grooming Chase would be best cause the 2nd stringer isn’t going to be around for long… And for the McAlister pickup, why didn’t we do this earlier? This guy has to have something left that he can contribute long term.

I heard McAlister was just cleared by his doctor to return to football from a knee injury. I think this is a much needed move and love to see the team making decisions that at least appear to make sense. I guess Mike McKenzie must be in bad shape. Would have loved somehow for him to be a part of this along with the other McAllister.

I think he is a good pickup if his knee is ok. Payton and Loomis have been really good at finding value in the free agent market so far, and I agree with mel6686 in that I think he can still play at a high level and probably still has that Ravens D mindset. I like the move. If he can stay healthy he will be a huge asset when we get to the Playoffs. Good insurance.

It doesn't matter bout CHASE he wasn't going to play anyway at the 3 string QB!!! We need a good run stopper on the line too!!!!!!!!! WHO DAT!!!!!

Chase will be resigned. He is a good prospect. He knows this is a business.

This was a very good move on the saints part, this guy has experience and a ring, this move should make the secondary even more secure, they just added a few more interceptions, go saints One more thing people should consider this is the first yr of the new defence, they all are still learning, can't wait till next season to watch how good they are going to be
