NEW ORLEANS — Some WWE superstars got their hands dirty on the Westbank Friday, helping build a playground at Woodland West Elementary.
The group teamed up with Kaboom to give students a new opportunity to learn outside the classroom.
The group came to lend a helping hand and said it is all about giving back to the community.
Among the dozens of volunteers were WWE superstars, like R Truth and Xavier Woods. The group came to get their hands dirty and show the students what star power looks like outside the ring.
"This is very much needed,” said R. Truth. “It is all about giving back. I believe how you get ahead is by giving back."
The school only had a field with virtually no playground for the kids.
The stars jumped to action and after warming up the crowd, with many volunteers from the metro area pitching in.
Amy Hoyle, the school principal, was at times emotional and is grateful for the help.
“This is going to be life-changing for students because they are here every day and for years we have had nothing but an open field,” Hoyle said. “Now they will have a play ground out here, a classroom, and a garden to learn from."
The crew will have the playground complete by Friday afternoon and ready for students.
