NEW ORLEANS -- There isn't an offseason for the St. Aug. Marching 100. Pick a random weekday afternoon in the year and head to the school's Seventh Ward campus, and chances are you'll see a hundred-strong Purple Knights preparing for their next march.

Jeffery Herbert, the band's director, says there's a reason for all that practicing.

"As a staff and as a director, we like perfection," Herbert said. "You can't settle for anything else. Perfection."

So we got to wondering, what goes into making the Marching 100 so good, so consistently? For this week's How It's Done, we find out the best way we know how -- by seeing a full practice, beginning to end.

Watch the video above to catch a day in the life of a Purple Knight.
