VENICE, La. -- Plaquemines Parish officials is investigating a chemical they say turned into a white foam after it was sprayed on the Gulf of Mexico.
Reports of the chemical started coming in on June 13 from fishermen off the coast of Venice in the Breton Sound area.
Plaquemines Parish officials contacted the Coast Guard, who told them it is a mock dispersant sprayed by a company out of Mississippi.
Local fishermen told parish officials it caused itching and burning.
Parish officials are still working to confirm what the chemical is.
