NEW ORLEANS -- An unusual sight for some Christmas Day travelers, as water spouts touched down on Lake Ponchartrain.

Eyewitness Jeanne Landry sent in a video of a funnel cloud sweeping across the water not far from the Causeway.

Strong winds forced two separate bridge closures Tuesday afternoon, but even when traffic was allowed to cross, the weather system made its presence known.

Another passenger on the bridge, Liesl Anderson, spotted a water spout while heading home from Metairie traveling in the northbound lanes.

And throughout the day downpours slowed things down.

Eyewitness Chris Hadley documented some of the heavy rain while riding across the city.

In some areas, power outages knocked traffic signals out, causing headaches for drivers.

By early evening though, things moved much more smoothly, as the Christmas Day storm system finally moved on.
