NEW ORLEANS -- Dozens gathered at Chase Bank on S. Carrollton and S. Claiborne avenues releasing balloons in memory of slain security guard Hector Trochez.

Close friend Sylvester Venible led the crowd in prayer and said this is to remember a man who was always smiling.

“I'm sorry this had to happen to him and we will miss him. He was my ex-coworker, but I love him with all my heart.”

Friday, the FBI, New Orleans Police Department and other agencies gathered encouraging the public to help find the men responsible for Trochez's murder. Police hope $50,000 in reward money will help point them to the suspects.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael Anderson said, “We have a number of leads we are working on, but we need the public's assistance.”

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said, “The three people that did this should not underestimate how much we know and how much we know about them. This is the time you may want to consider turning yourself in.”

Those at this vigil said Trochez will be sorely missed, but his death comes as an eye-opener to the dangers of this job.

Byron Lambert is an armored security guard and knew Trochez personally. He said his death was a wake-up call. “I know it is a dangerous job and it really opened my eyes. It is very dangerous."

Police are looking through surveillance video. Detectives have recovered one vehicle used in the robbery. Now police are looking for a Hyundai vehicle with Louisiana license plate number 14021654.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
