NEW ORLEANS -- Dozens of music fanatics lined up in front of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, eagerly waiting to get inside to see this year's all-star lineup for Essence Fest.
Inside the stadium, things heated up under the bright lights of the main stage.
“Oh my God, this is supposed to be the best one ever that they've had,” said Karla Valentin. “We are looking forward to it.”
From San Francisco to Boston, many traveled here just to see their favorite artists and some of the festival's biggest headliners yet, like Beyonce.
“We are bubbling over with you,” said Antonio Randolph. “Really though, we are live-concert people and we just look forward to the entertainment that they got for us because it is definitely award-winning.”
“I am looking forward to seeing all the celebrities and I am just having a blast,” Nicole Wilson said.
For many like Wilson, it's their first time to Essence Fest, and for even more it's their first time to New Orleans.
“It’s beautiful,” said Gregory Espy. “We were able to hang out in the French Quarter. It was wonderful. We went to eat and look at all the sites. It was wonderful.”
Essence Fest even had a few firsts of its own, mainly the family reunion day event.
“It was a nice time with some different people and I am sure they will make some corrections considering it was their first time doing that. I'm sure they will tweek it, fine-tune it and it will be even better next year,” Randolph said
This will be the second time this year Beyonce will perform here at the Superdome.
