NEW ORLEANS -- Local artwork from world-renowned street artist Banksy has been defaced.

Someone sprayed red paint over the piece of art known as the Umbrella Girl, located on the corner of North Rampart and Kerlerec.

The graffiti artists weren't successful in completely defacing the famed street art that was painted in 2008, during Banksy's stint in New Orleans.

The red paint has been cleaned off, but only about 15 percent of the plexi-glass that covered the work remains intact.
