Local Catholics who ventured out to Church early Monday said they were surprised to have awakened to the news that the Pope was stepping down.
Father Tony Rigoli, prior to saying Mass, said he heard about the news on WWL-TV's Morning News. He said he was surprised. He said Pope Benedict deserved credit for realizing that his health would prevent him from vigorously doing his duties.
