FRANKLINTON, La.-- Hurricane Isaac's effects are being felt across the metro area and stretching north into Washington Parish, where there is flooding.
The Bogue Chitto River crested and is now in the process of falling "slowly," according to emergency preparedness officials in Washington Parish.
About 185 homes and businesses are currently flooded, Wasington Parish President Richard Thomas said. He added that there are no reports of anyone being stranded.
The Bogue Chitto River crested at 22.14 feet, around 7 p.m. Friday night, more than 10 feet above flood stage.
Several people are being housed at Hillcrest Baptist Church, where the Red Cross has set up a shelter.
Officials say about 12,000 out of 47,000 people in Washington Parish remain with out power.
