BATON ROUGE, La -- Gov. Bobby Jindal urged caution for residents of Louisiana as Isaac makes it approaches on the coast of Louisiana, warning "every storm is different."
The governor quickly stated he will not attend that Republican National Convention, before moving on to storm preparations for the state. Twenty parishes across the state are under a hurricane warning, said Jindal at afternoon press conference.
The current forecast has Isaac making landfall as strong Category 1 hurricane, but Jindal added that the National Weather Service predicts that Isaac will make a slow approach on the Louisiana coast. "which means that coast will see long periods of heavy wind."
Twenty three parishes have already declared states of emergencies, said Jindal, and residents who were thinking of evacuating, Monday is the ideal day to do so, especially residents in low-lying, flood-prone-areas.
Jindal said he doesn't anticipate enacting the state's Contralow evacuation plan for motorists.
Ahead of Isaac, the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office moved nearly 1,100 prisioners out of the New Orleans, said Jindal.
FEMA is sending 750,000 MREs, 800,000 bottles of water and 15,000 tarps. The supplies are expected to be in place by Tuesday, said the governor.
