LAPLACE, La. – Water was subsiding in St. John Parish neighborhoods that flooded from Hurricane Isaac.
More than 3,000 residents were evacuated from water-logged homes Wednesday and Thursday when the high water forced boaters to make rescues from homes that vehicles couldn’t reach.
“I’ve never flooded in 25 years and when the water started coming up, I said, ‘Man, this isn’t going to get into the house, is it?” said Alvin Louque. “But, it was inevitable. We got about six inches of water throughout the whole house.”
Residents who were bused out of the neighborhood were taken to shelters in Alexandria and Shreveport.
