NWS: Wintry mix 'expected' north of the lake Thursday night

NEW ORLEANS - The National Weather Service says a wintry mix is expected in parts of St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes starting Thursday night.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for areas of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi from 9 p.m. to noon Friday. Forecasters expect cold rain to transition into a mix of sleet and snow Thursday night and Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says some light accumulation on elevated surfaces and grassy areas could occur but will melt quickly after the precipitation ends.
