Mayor Mitch Landrieu visited with fire fighters and area residents Saturday at the burned Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. The Mayor explained to concerned citizens that the danger of imminent collapse made demolition necessary. Area residents reported that burning embers rained down Friday night from the fire, and alert residents of a nearby apartment raked glowing coals off of the room to prevent the fire from spreading. Cars in the area were coated with ash. One resident was washing her car quickly to head to a Saints party. Unfortunately, the Saints were to fair about as well as the church.
