Evelyn Williams turns 100 years of age on Thursday, November 17, 2011!
Ms. Evelyn was born to the union of John G. and Edna Carriere on November 17, 1911. She was the second of eight children. She attended elementary school in Mandeville and high school in New Orleans. Evelyn met and married the “love of her life”, Lawrence Williams. They were married over sixty (60) years. Evelyn and Lawrence helped to build their home in New Orleans and resided there until it was destroyed by Katrina in 2005.
Evelyn and her older sister, Nellie, moved back to the family home in Mandeville in 2006. Evelyn retired from Mercy Hospital in New Orleans. She enjoyed sewing and would design Mardi Gras costumes for her clubs and balls. She loved sitting at her kitchen table with the newspaper and a cup of coffee.
Ms. Evelyn currently resides at Pontchartrain Health Care Centre in Mandeville, where she enjoys art, music, and occasional trips to local restaurants with friends…she still enjoys her coffee and newspaper each day!
A birthday celebration is scheduled for Thursday, November 17th at Pontchartrain Healthcare Centre for all friends and family!
