I am very proud to say that my mom is Maggie Gautreaux. She is my inspiration and my rock. I look up to her because she does so much for so many people. She has for so many years. For at least 20 years (give or take a few) she was the recreation director for our recreation department. She would pick up kids who were less fortunate than us and bring them to the park so that they would not get into trouble. She did this so unselfishly and enjoyed teaching and molding the community kids. She is now 70 years old and her face lights up when kids for our community (who have since grown up) approach her with excitement. We cannot go anywhere without her knowing someone or having someone come up to her and give her big hugs. We always have to ask “Who is that mom?” and she will say “It’s just one of my babies.” As a matter of fact sometimes when I introduce myself I refer to myself as Maggie Gautreaux’s middle daughter and they know exactly who I am. She is still so active in helping people. It is her daily routine to pick up some of her friends, who no longer drive, to attend mass at 7:00 am very morning. After mass she will bring them to meet other friends at McDonald’s and have breakfast. She is also a Eucharistic minister and brings communion to the sick at West Jefferson hospital every Wednesday and she loves doing it. It makes her upset when she can’t do it. She will also bring communion to the sick’s houses if it is requested of her. I never hear her complain. After Katrina she was so worried about the sick people at West Jefferson she put herself in harms way to deliver communion. I am deeply thankful to have such a caring and giving mother. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for teaching me the morals and values that she has instilled in me. She is truly an angel not only to my family but to so many people of our community. I feel I am the mother I am today only because of her. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!
