My father, Alphonse M. Maes, Jr., lied about his age in order to serve his country during WWII. He was sixteen years old. He served aboard the USS Bowditch and was discharged with an Honorable Discharge. I'd like to thank all military personnel past, present, and future for helping to keep our country free.
