Dad - Then

William Faulkner- Our Foundation of Love

The Bible tells us ... The steps of a good man are ordered by God.
However, if my father, William Faulkner, had to say - it would be - no man is good but Christ - that's how humble his spirit is. Anyone who knows him or know of him will attest that he is truly a "good" man - and often referred to as "a man's man."
Wonderfully blessed with 82 years - he is the epitome of a Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Neighbor. Always lending a hand, encouraging the young, sharing with the homeless and unfortunate, feeding the hungry, opening his home to those who needed rest and no where to go. There is so much I can say about my father - but it is truly revealed in the life he has lived before us. While living in Ohio with my family, it was my Father who nurtured and cared for my Mom after losing her leg to diabetes. The devastation of doing so - left her hopeless - she couldn't vision a life without a limb. It was my Father who became her strength, the force that got her living again. He took on all the household duties, cooking, cleaning, laundry, bathing her, dressing her, even combing and rolling her hair. He brought her to all doctor appointments, carried her when needed, encouraging her every step of the way - even forcing her to go grocery shopping with him as he pushied her wheel chair thru the aisles of the store. Both my Mom and Father had a passion for cooking and baking and this passion was shared in the kitchen - a place where our family gathered often. He entertained the grandchildren, family, neighbors and friends when they visited. He was always by her side. We marvelled at his patience, his grace, his love for her until her death. A native of Natchez, MS - a retired Longshoreman, my Father is a strong presence in our life and we are honored to be of his blood, offsprings that will carry on his legacy. For us , his life speaks boldly and a true testament of a Father - God's Man - A Good Man.
