NEW ORLEANS — A towering sculpture seemed to appear out of nowhere in a spot suffering from decay and neglect in the city.
The giant flowers were made out of cardboard for the local art group Paper Monuments, asking through the sculpture: What is an appropriate monument to our city today?
According to the group's website, Paper Monuments is "...a public art and public history project designed to elevate the voices of the people of New Orleans."
Photojournalist Brian Lukas spoke to neighbors about what the piece means to them.
