Changes are coming to Mardi Gras in Jefferson Parish

In October, Van Vrancken told Eyewitness News that the council was looking into reversing the traditional Metairie route that begins at Clearview.

METAIRIE, La. – Changes are coming to Jefferson Parish’s carnival season.

Jefferson Parish leaders plan to unveil new plans Tuesday afternoon for Family Gras and krewes that roll in Jefferson Parish during carnival season. Parish President Mike Yenni, Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken and Jefferson Convention and Visitors Bureau President Violet Peters will make the announcement at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

There has been some speculation and anticipation about what the possible changes could be. In October, Van Vrancken told Eyewitness News that the council was looking into reversing the traditional Metairie route that begins at Clearview.

That same month, the council voted unanimously to reduce the number of bands required for each krewe if they can meet certain criteria.

Another possible change: moving the Family Gras celebration to the Clearview Shopping Center.
