City crews take unattended items off Uptown parade route

They picked up tarps, chairs and anything left along St. Charles and Napoleon avenues.

NEW ORLEANS — After a no-show earlier in the week, city crews came out in force before Wednesday's parades to remove unattended belongings along parade routes.

Dump trucks and workers patrolled St. Charles and Napoleon avenues picking up tarps, ladders and chairs left on the neutral ground or sidewalks.

In some cases, there were people sitting with their stuff and their things were not taken.

"This morning, we came out with our neighbors and friends and made our little area. And so now we're guarding it," one resident told WWL-TV.

New rules discourage people from setting up camps more than four hours before parade-time.

Here's another look at the rules in place for carnival season, so you don't end up losing anything or missing a parade.

  • Personal items should not be placed along parade routes 4 hours before parades. That includes coolers, chairs, and ladders.
  • You're not allowed to block intersections.
  • Enclosed tents are prohibited as well.
  • Large vehicles like trailers and pick-up trucks with port-a-potties are not allowed on the routes 4 hours before and after parades roll.
