NEW ORLEANS — The second half of the Nyx parade, canceled after float 21 struck and killed a woman near the start of the route, will ride Sunday with the Krewe of Pandora.
The organization announced Friday that about 200 members of the Mystic Krewe of Nyx will ride in Metairie with Pandora. Jefferson Parish officials tweeted shortly after the move was announced, saying that three new floats would be added to the Pandora procession to accommodate the new riders.
Nyx’s captain, Julia Lea, is also captain of Pandora.
The last 22 floats of Nyx were diverted after Geraldine Carmouche died after being run over by a float. Witnesses tell Eyewitness News reporter Mike McDaniel that Carmouche tried to cross between a tandem float, a two-part parade float connected by a trailer hitch. She apparently tripped over the hitch connecting the two sections and fell to the ground before being crushed by the second half of the float.
The crash cast a pall over the first big night of parading in the final weekend of the Carnival season.
The next night, New Orleans canceled parades due to a high wind advisory.
The Krewe of Muses will be rescheduled to 4:45 p.m. Friday. The Krewe of Babylon will follow Muses at 5:15 p.m. Those parades will start at Napoleon and Perrier and skip the traditional Magazine part of their routes.
The Krewe of Chaos will roll Sunday after the Krewe of Thoth. Chaos will lineup at Napoleon and Magazine.
The city said that the rescheduled parades will be "floats only" and include no marching groups.
