LOS ANGELES — Three Louisiana artists earned grammys at the 61st annual gathering for the award ceremony at the Staple Center in Los Angeles.
Several more were nominated for honors across the board but lost out to other acts.
Arguably the most well-known of the local representation is New Orleans native and St. Augustine High School alumnus P.J. Morton, who took home Best Traditional R&B Performance, "for new vocal or instrumental traditional R&B recordings."
The 'Maroon 5' keyboardist and solo act earned the award for his performance of his song "How Deep Is Your Love," featuring Yebba, tying for the distinction with star Leon Bridges for his song "Bet Ain't Worth the Hand."
Morton was nominated for two additional grammys, losing out for the similar Best R&B Performance award and Best R&B Album of the year despite strong reception for his latest live album, "Gumbo Unplugged."
Three other St. Augustine alumni joined Morton on the ballots, with New Orleans native Terrence Blanchard accepting Best Instrumental Composition for his work on “Blood and Soil” from the soundtrack of the acclaimed film "BlacKKKlansman."

"Congratulations to our very own @T_Blanchard He took home the award for Best Instrumental Composition for “Blood and Soil” from BlacKkKlansman," New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell tweeted.
Another former Purple Knight, Blair Taylor, helped produce rapper Travis Scott's smash hip hop album "Astroworld," which lost out for Best Rap Album of the year to artist Cardi B.
The fourth and final St. Aug alumni in the Grammy mix this year is New Orleans' son Jon Batiste, front man for the band "Jon Batiste and Stay Human," the in-house band for the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Batiste and his band were up for Best American Roots Performance, which is defined as:
"New vocal or instrumental American Roots recordings. This is for performances in the style of any of the subgenres encompassed in the American Roots Music field including Americana, bluegrass, blues, folk or regional roots. Award to the artist(s),"
The performers were nominated for their rendition of the New Orleans standard "Saints James Infirmary Blues," but lost out to Brandi Carlile's "The Joke."

Just down I-10, singer and songwriter Lauren Daigle nabbed two different awards for contemporary Christian music.
Daigle and her team took home Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for her album "Look Up Child," and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for her track "You Say."

Also representing New Orleans at this year's award ceremony is the group Cha Wa, self-described as the "New Orleans brass band-meets-Mardi Gras Indian outfit Cha Wa [that] radiates the fiery energy of the best features of the city’s street culture"
The local group was nominated for Best Regional Roots Music Album, for their new album "Spyboy," but lost out to Kalani Pe'a.
