KENNER, La. — Firefighters in Kenner made the cutest rescue of their careers Thursday, saving 13 ducklings and their mother from the parking lot of a Walmart and returning them to a nearby lagoon.
Multiple shoppers called in to the fire station, concerned about the safety of the birds, according to a Facebook post from the city of Kenner.
By the time firefighters arrived at the Walmart, located at the corner of Loyola Drive and West Esplanade Avenue, the ducks had gathered a fan club of shoppers, who applauded the rescue crew as they chased down the animals and placed them in a pair of boxes.
The ducklings ended their trip to the store when firefighters drove them back to the City Park lagoon, according to Fire District Chief Iggy Rosales. After firefighters released them, the mother led her children into the water, swimming happily away.
