10 meals for under $10 across the New Orleans metro

We have ground rules: No chains and it must be under $10 on the menu. However, we may go over $10 with tax and tip included. We always tip.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans has always been known for great food, but is it possible to still find meals for under $10?

We set out to find out.

We have ground rules: No chains and it must be under $10 on the menu. However, we may go over $10 with tax and tip included. We always tip.

Melba's

First, we stopped by Melba's where breakfast plates are dished up hot from the grill. They range from $3.49 - $9.99 and are delicious.

A "Little Man's Breakfast" is $3.49, "Big Man's Breakfast" $6.49, "9th Ward Hungry Man Breakfast" is $9.99 and a "Build Ya Own Omelet" for $8.99.

Melba's locations are located at 3205 Tulane Ave. and 1525 Elysian Fields Ave.

Fiorella's

If you're in the Gentilly area around lunchtime, you won't want to miss Fiorella's. Half of the stromboli is plenty for one person. The family-owned restaurant started near the French Market before moving to Gentilly. Since 1985, they've dished up Italian favorites and Southern classics.

Juan's Flying Burrito

B.R.C. Bowl at Juan’s Flying Burrito, $5.55; or Mojado burrito, $9

Multiple locations

The B.R.C. stands for Beans, Rice and Cheese. That's what you'll find in a bowl topped with sour cream and jalapeños. McNulty says it's technically an appetizer, but it's enough to fill you up. If you're looking for a burrito, the Mojado is delicious. Both of these options are vegetarian-friendly.
