Gas below $3 per gallon? Some stations in Baton Rouge are already there

The cheapest price in the New Orleans metro area is $3.25, the prices are still above where they were a year ago, when the average was $2.79 locally.

NEW ORLEANS — Gas prices have been falling fairly quickly in Louisiana and around the country since peaking at extremely high levels in mid-June.

In addition, several relative “bargains” can be found with at least 4 stations in Baton Rouge listing prices below $3 per gallon, according to gasbuddy.com.

Three Walmart-related stores – one Sam’s (at 201 Basss Pro Blvd.), one Walmart (9679 Airline Highway) and one Neighborhood Walmart (9745 Airline Highway), along with Costco (10000 Dawnadale Avenue) , have prices at $2.99 or $2.98 per gallon.

The lowest price in the New Orleans area is $3.25 at Costco.

The average price of gas in the New Orleans area is currently at $3.77, according to AAA. The average price in Baton Rouge, said to have the lowest average in the country, is $3.60.

Both the Orleans and Baton Rouge prices are down substantially from highs of $4.52 in mid-June.

Of course, prices are still considerably ahead of where they were a year ago, when a gallon of regular gas averaged $2.79 in New Orleans metro area.
