City Park welcomes four new swans to New Orleans

The birds flew in from out-of-state and appear to have settled in nicely.

NEW ORLEANS — City Park officially welcomed Fred, Ginger, Benedick and Beatrice, four new swans, to New Orleans Thursday.

The mute, white swans were flown in from Michigan Wednesday afternoon. They came directly from the airport to City Park.

City Park is home to a variety of animals people can look at and enjoy and that's what the goal is for these new additions.

"City Park is a Wild Kingdom so once they're here, if they want to stay that's great," said Amanda Frentz, the City Park Public Relations Director. "If they decide to take a leap and jump in the lagoon or you know, go up Bayou St. John to the lake, that's up to them completely. They are pinned so they can't fly, but if people do see them in the street or what not, do try to shuffle them back into the park."

There are now a total of seven swans at City Park, one we're told has a nest so that has officials excited.

You can see these new additions for as long as they choose to call city park home.
