NEW ORLEANS - Two members of the WWL-TV team faced their fears Friday morning and rappeled down Benson Tower in support of the Special Olympics.

Starting at 7 a.m., reporters Kristin Pierce and Duke Carter rappeled 25 stories in the CBD as part of Special Olympics Louisiana’s annual “Over the Edge: S.W.A.T. Edition” event. It was the second time in two years that Kristin Pierce has gone "over the edge."

The fundraiser raises thousands of dollars each year for the organization. Everyone who rappels down Benson Tower is required to raise at least $1,000 in order to participate.

Participants will also ride a helicopter over the Mississippi River and get S.W.A.T. training with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Kenner Police Department.

There will also be performances from the 610 Stompers and a guest appearance by New Orleans Saints mascot Sir Saint.
