COVINGTON, La. – Covington Police say a 13-year-old allegedly brought materials commonly used to manufacture a bomb to a north shore high school
The unnamed 13-year-old, who is a student at William Pitcher Jr. High School, was booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on one count of manufacture and possession of a bomb.
Tuesday afternoon, a student resource officer alerted police about a student with a bottle that contained an unknown chemical that was reportedly smoking after it was spilled on the sidewalk.
Paramedics looked at eight people for chemical exposure, but they all refused additional treatment.
A hazmat crew from the Covington Fire Department was called to the scene to collect the materials.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police say there is no threat to public safety.
