13-year-old shot in chest in St. Claude neighborhood

Police reported the shooting around 4 p.m. on Saturday.

NEW ORLEANS — Police found a 13-year-old boy with an apparent gunshot wound to his chest on Saturday afternoon in the St. Claude neighborhood. 

The NOPD is now investigating the incident, which they said happened in the 2700 block of North Miro Street near Almonaster Avenue in their Fifth District.

Police are classifying the incident as an aggravated battery by shooting. 

On the scene, family members of the unnamed boy told Eyewitness News that he's "doing okay." Neither a suspect nor a motive have been named in the shooting. 

According to Khaliq Williams, who identified himself as the victim's brother, their sister was with the boy and a group of people walking back from Almonaster Avenue when the shooting occurred.
This is the second reported shooting on Saturday in the city.

The first was reported around 2:00 a.m. on the 8400 block of North I-10 Service Road in New Orleans East. There, police found a man apparently shot in the chest and arm.

A woman also sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
