4 arrested in attempted ATM theft, NOPD says

NOPD officials say the suspects used a truck, chains, a pry bar and a sledge hammer to destroy the machine but were not able to get it open.

NEW ORLEANS — Police arrested four masked men caught trying to break into an ATM overnight.

New Orleans Police Department officers caught the group just before 3 a.m. Wednesday attempting to break open an ATM at the Capital One bank on the corner of Lake Forest Boulevard and Bullard Avenue in New Orleans East.

NOPD officials say the suspects used a truck, chains, a pry bar and a sledge hammer to destroy the machine but were not able to get it open.

Police identified the group as Justine Pierce, 21, Brishun Gary, 18, Theodore Keys III, 39, and Tyrik Scott, 20. They were arrested just moments after trying to run from officer, NOPD officials said.

They were booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for simple criminal damage to property, simple burglary, theft and resisting an officer.

Police officials say the investigation into the incident was ongoing and asked anyone with additional information to call detectives at 504-658-6070.
