"Extremely dangerous," teen caught in Algiers after OJJ escape, state police say

Curtis Tassin, 17, who has a history of escaping custody, was considered by NOPD to be, "extremely dangerous," after he fled Wednesday morning.

NEW ORLEANS — A teen who escaped from state custody early Wednesday was caught in Algiers on Thursday, Louisiana State Police confirmed. 

Known as the "Houdini of juvenile escapees," Curtis Tassin, 17, was at large again on Wednesday after state officials apparently botched a transfer to juvenile court. 

Tassin was considered by NOPD to be, "extremely dangerous," The teen had been previously charged with assault, battery, armed robbery, carjacking and a history of escaping custody.  

According to the Office of Juvenile Justice, Tassin was on the 1700 block of Elizardi Boulevard in Algiers when he was caught. He has been charged with simple escape.

Prior to the escape on Wednesday, the teen was held at Acadiana Center for Youth at St. Martinville. 

Tassin had previously escaped Bridge City in March 2022, when he was connected to a group that apparently carjacked a man, stole his car, and crashed it.
