Cyclist hit with baseball bat, robbed on Lafitte Greenway Sunday, NOPD says

The attacker took the cyclist's wallet and cellphone then demanded the pin to unlock the phone, police say

NEW ORLEANS — Police are searching for a man they say hit a cyclist on the Lafitte Greenway with a baseball bat then robbed him early Sunday morning.

Around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, the unnamed 31-year-old cyclist was riding on the Greenway and was near Laffite Street in the Treme neighborhood when he was stopped by a man with a metal bat, initial NOPD reports show.

The man then hit the rider with the bat and took his cellphone and wallet, the cyclist told NOPD officers.

With the belongings in his hands, the man then demanded the pin number to unlock the phone. The cyclist gave him that number and the man ran from the scene, police said.

Police are investigating the attack as an armed robbery.
